DongBen Mansion

Perched on a hilltop overlooking vast rice fields and a lush green valley, DongBen Mansion is PAK’s journey of accompanying the renovation of an architectural work that serves as the home and retreat for a large, multi-generational family. To fully embrace the surrounding mountains and poetic fields, the house opens its panoramic views through expansive glazed surfaces. These are carefully protected from sun and rain by a continuous system of deep eaves and a double-layer façade with operable sun-shading louvers, forming an effective thermal buffer and a gentle transitional zone. When closed, sunlight filters through the louvers, creating poetic light patterns. When opened, the boundary between interior space and the surrounding landscape dissolves. The overall atmosphere of the house evokes a sense of tradition, harmoniously integrated with its natural context.
