While many contemporary homestay models focus on creating enclosed and private in-room experiences, Hieuhouse chose a different direction for this retreat project in Lao Cai. Set on a 1.5-hectare site, the project does not seek to stand out within the landscape like conventional developments; instead, it adopts the opposite approach — allowing architecture to step back and give nature and communal living the central role.
The Lao Cai Homestay is a clear example of a resort architecture approach grounded in respect for context and community life. Here, guests are invited to experience a slower pace of living and a sense of togetherness — a place to rest, connect with others, and immerse themselves in nature.
