The Sơn Trà District Artistic Exhibition Center, also known as Wings Art, is conceived from the local desire to establish a space for showcasing valuable works of art—a place for artists and creatives to gather, and a platform to promote public awareness of artistic value within the city. In approaching the design, beyond fulfilling the building's core function as an art exhibition space, we proposed practical yet innovative solutions. Our aim was to ensure that the project not only serves its purpose but also generates a positive social impact and contributes sustainable value to the community. In Vietnam, the design of public buildings often follows outdated templates—symmetrical in form and heavily influenced by French colonial architecture. As a result, these structures tend to feel impersonal and uninviting to the public. Over time, many require renovation or are repurposed entirely due to their inability to serve evolving social needs. When we were invited to participate in the WingsArt project, we reflected deeply on these long-standing issues. Determined to challenge the conventional approach to public architecture, we pursued a pioneering direction—one aimed at transforming how civic leaders perceive and commission public projects. As a space dedicated to preserving and exhibiting works of art, WingsArt must itself be a work of art. This belief became the foundation of our design philosophy. Our concept ultimately convinced the local authorities and allowed the project to take on a bold and expressive architectural form.
